The Bard and Broadway

Huntington native Michael Cerveris has a new project coming up on Broadway.

He'll be part of the cast for the Lincoln Center Theater's upcoming production of William Shakespeare's Cymbeline. The cast of 26 will include Cerveris, Jonathan Cake, John Cullum, Martha Plimpton and Phylicia Rashad.

The play begins performances on November 1 and opens December 2 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater.

Cymbeline combines comedy, tragedy and history into an epic tale of power as two forces battle until the happy conclusion.

You can learn more about the production at this story on Broadway.com.

I danced for many years with Michael's sister, Marissa(sp). We started at Dickinson's School of the Dance on 10th St., right across from the old HHS. Of course, I only knew her and her mother...Michael was a young boy back then. Mrs. Jean Dickinson, the owner and instructor, hand picked Marissa and me to be sent to NCSA (No. Carolina School of the Arts.) We were the first to ever be accepted into NCSA from WV. This was back in the early to middle seventies. Marissa went on with her studies in NY as did I. I was with American Ballet Theatre(ABT), and then was accepted into NYCB later. Marissa was accepted the moment she walked in....lol....she was the most natural ballet dancer that I had and will ever see. I was good, but I had to work my bottom off...she just stepped on the floor and danced. Great blog. Tamara Myers-White, citizen member of the Editorial Board of the H.D.

Tamara, thanks for the story! I only met Michael many years ago in passing, and never met his sister. When he was young he did several projects at WOWK-TV, including anchoring "Action News for Kids" (later "Kidsmag") and appearing in special children's programming. All this was before I started working on those shows, although I was working at the TV station at the time as a news cinematographer. But it was obvious even then that he was a talented kid. Apparently it runs in the family!
