Tony Nominees Announced

The nominations for the 2009 American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards were announced today, and it looks like Billy Elliot, The Musical is the early favorite, since it received 15 nominations. The most surprising is the one for the three young actors who play the title role (they rotate the part, since young actors can't work every night). Will they have to share a single statue?

Ah well - we'll gear up our "choose the winners" competition soon, and unless I'm stricken by sanity, I'll once again live blog the show.

Interesting field if you ask me. Anyway More than likely Billy Elliot will win Best Musical. However I am impressed that my favorite Shrek The Musical has been doing so well with awards and nomminations(I had chance to see it 2nd to last preview). I believe Shrek will win costumes hands down while elliot will take choreography. Christopher Sieber did a bang up job in shrek and should get the tony. Sutton Foster is a great choice as well. Its rather interesting to think about past tony winners in Best Musical.Shows many think should have won haven't such as Wizard of Oz, and Wicked, while shows that had short Broadway runs have won such as Titanic. So really it is up in the air. Next to normal or Rock of ages may sneek in and take it. I am excited to watch this years awards. So Chuck are we going for braging rights like the oscars? if so I will cast in my votes!!!

It is going to be very interesting to see the winners annouced! Billy Elliot I feel will win the most and I would like to see Shrek win at least four!!! I find it interesting that Next to Normal came into as well as Rock of Ages as silent contenders. I am shocked that 9 to 5 didn’t recive more nominations than it did! I am stoked to see what performances get slated into the mix of this fun filled night!!!
