ONSTAGE THIS WEEK:

 "Guys and Dolls JR." - The Alban Arts Center presents the Junior version of the classic musical on July 27, 28 and Aug. 3, 4 at 8 p.m. and July 29 and Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. at 65 Olde Main Plaza in St. Albans. Tickets are $15 for Adults and $10 for seniors and Children 12 and under.

“Hairspray” - Jenny Wiley Theatre presents the beloved musical about Tracy Turnblad’s dreams of fame, and how she uses her newfound star power to promote equal rights. The show will be presented at the Amphitheatre in Prestonsburg, Ky., on July 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 31, Aug. 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 at 8:15 p.m.

“Disney’s Aladdin, Jr.” - The Aracoma Story presents the Junior version of the musical on July 26, 27, 28, 29, Aug. 2, 3, 4 and 5 at 8:30 p.m. at Chief Logan State Park in Logan, WV.

UPCOMING LIVE THEATRE

“Disney’s The Little Mermaid” - The Charleston Light Opera Guild and the Clay Center present Disney's The Little Mermaid in the Maier Performance Hall at the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences on Aug. 3, 4, 10, and 11, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. with matinees on Aug. 5 and 12 at 2 p.m.

“Legally Blonde the Musical” - Paramount Players present the show at the Paramount Theatre in Ashland, Ky., on Aug. 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 4 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $18 for students, $25 for adults.

“Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Jr.” - The Actor’s Guild of Parkersburg presents the Junior version of the Disney musical at 724 Market Street in Parkersburg, WV, on Aug. 3, 4, 10, 11 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 5 and 11 at 2:30 p.m.

“The Beverly Hillbillies” - The Aracoma Story Inc. presents the comedy based on the classic TV show. The show will run Aug. 31, Sept. 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16.

“Of Devils and Men” is a live stage play written and directed by Lawrence Burgess. The death penalty has just been passed into law. Twelve jurors, one is the devil. The end has come. Performances will be at the Capitol Theatre in Charleston on Oct. 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28 and 31.

UPCOMING AUDITIONS:

AUDITIONS FOR: “Wait Until Dark” presented by Kanawha Players. Auditions will be held Monday, July 30 at 7 p.m. and Tuesday, July 31 at 7 p.m. at the Kanawha Players Theatre at 115 Spring Street in Charleston. They will be casting parts for six males, one female and one girl.

AUDITIONS FOR: “Dracula” presented by The Aracoma Story. Auditions will be held Friday, August 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, August 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Logan High School’s Little Theater. Prepare a one minute monologue. “Dracula
closely follows the source material of the novel. Bram Stoker's suspenseful story is based on the classic legend of the Transylvanian vampire. The lead characters in the play work to piece together Dracula’s identity. They make a valiant attempt to stop him from taking new victims. Dracula is suspenseful, creepy and perfect for the Halloween season. The show will be held in the Liz Spurlock Amphitheater at Chief Logan State Park.

AUDITIONS FOR: “Ragtime the Musical” presented by the Charleston Light Opera Guild. Auditions are open to ages 15 to adult (The Little Boy and The Little Girl are short, ages 9 – 11). SINGING auditions are Tuesday, August 14 at 7 p.m. No a capella, please! Prepare a classic Broadway song (bring sheet music for Guild accompanist if not singing from score). READING Auditions are Wednesday, August 15 at 7 p.m. Scripts are provided. DANCE Auditions are Thursday, August 16 at 7 p.m. Prompt! Dress to dance; combinations are taught. All auditions are held at the Charleston Light Opera Guild Theatre at the corner of Tennessee Avenue and Roane Street. 

AUDITIONS FOR: “Love, Loss and What I Wore” presented by Alchemy Theatre Troupe. Directed by Amy Carlson, the cast includes five roles available for women, 18 years of age and older. Auditions will be held on Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. at the Boys and Girls Club in Huntington at 732 14th Street West. The show will be presented Oct. 19 and 20 at 8 p.m.  Scenes and monologues from the play will be provided at auditions for readings. Actresses will read from scenes and cuts selected by the director. Director and other actresses will be present during auditions for possible readings together. Bring ALL conflicts between Aug. 25 and Oct. 18. Conflicts will be considered and taken into account for casting. If you are interested in auditioning and you cannot make that date, please message the director at amy.carlson@marshall.edu .

UPCOMING SUMMER CAMPS:

Paramount Players - “Living Truthfully, the Practice Behind the Art.” Art takes practice, and this class is designed to help students of all levels fine tune the art of acting. The class will have a heavy focus on acting schools of thought, various principles, character development, and exercises to hone acting to a sharper edge. Over the 8 week course students will learn how to connect with other actors on stage for a deeper and truer since of the character and story, as well as how to develop a sense for organic and natural acting. Being neither a beginner or advanced class, the goal will be to provide a safe environment to reach out and grasp new levels for all students. Come. Be relaxed. Learn along the way.

Fridays - July 27, August 10, 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.

This class is offered free of charge.

Alban Arts and Conference Center - Introduction to Playwriting with John Barton. This course will focus on teaching skills necessary to write a play: crafting a character, writing believable dialogue, creating conflict, and building a scene. There will be weekly assignments, in-class exercises, and some online discussion and support. Students will do script study, complete several writing exercises, and critique dialogue and scenes before writing their own original 10-minute play. Select plays will be read or performed at the end of the course. No experience necessary. Recommended ages 12 and up (Middle School / High School). Mondays 2 to 4 p.m. at the Alban through August 13.
