Huntington's Busy Theatre Weekend

It's a busy weekend in Huntington for community theatre, as this story in the Herald-Dispatch reveals:
At a time when such British fare as “Downton Abbey” continues to captivate audiences, what could be more hip than to take a musical walk though a 1911 British novel?    The Fifth Avenue Theatre Company takes just such a stroll as they unravel the mysteries in the musical, “The Secret Garden,” a 1991 Broadway musical with music by Carly Simon’s sister Lucy that breathed new life into the perennially popular novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
Fifth Avenue kicks off the production at 8 p.m. Friday and has a two weekend run of the show, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 8-9m and 8 p.m. March 15-16. Matinees are set for Sunday, March 10 and Sunday, March 17 at the Jean Carlo Stephenson Auditorium at City Hall.
Tickets are $12 for festival seating.  For more information call Maxine Loudermilk at (304) 696-5522 or Eddie Harbert at (304) 544-2831.
Read more about this production in Friday’s Life section of The Herald-Dispatch.
Other theater happenings this weekend, on Thursday, the Marshall Artists Series welcomes in the national tour of “Hair.” The epic, rock ‘n’ roll musical, “Hair” will play in Huntington at 7:30 p.m Thursday, March 7 with the Marshall Artists Series. Tickets are $58, $50 and $45. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Joan C. Edwards Box Office, calling 304-696-6656, or online at ticketmaster.com.
Also downtown, Curtains Up Players, puts a new spin on an old classic, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” at the Jeslyn Performing Arts Center, 1030 4th Ave., Huntington.
The second weekend run will be at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, March 7-9 as well as a 2:30 p.m. Sunday matinee.
Read more about these shows in Thursday’s Herald-Dispatch Weekend section that features nearly 20 pages of stuff to do this Weekend.
