I try not to make this humble blog a personal vehicle, but I'm part of a project that promises to be a heck of a lot of fun.
About 15 years ago I directed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with First Stage Theatre, and it was an absolute blast.
I had heard the original album way back when I was in college (thanks, Chuck Niday!) and loved it - so I was happy to tackle the show, and we had a terrific time working on it, and our young cast knocked it out of the park.
I've been talking to the folks at my church, Pea Ridge United Methodist Church, about staging the show there - and they loved the idea!
I get to work with our amazingly talented music director, Dr. Alex Lee - he's the Assistant Professor of Voice Music and Opera Director and the Coordinator of Voice Studies at Marshall University.
We had the first round of auditions last Saturday, and we were thrilled with the amazing talent that turned out! It's a great mix of veteran performers and young talent - the show is open to (almost) all ages.
But a few folks couldn't be there last weekend, so you have one more chance - we're holding one more day of auditions on Friday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Pea Ridge United Methodist Church at 5747 East Pea Ridge Road in Huntington.
The musical / rock opera, created by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, is based on the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors from the book of Genesis, and will be staged by the Pea Ridge Players. Auditions are open to ages 8 to 108, with many roles available for all ages.
Those auditioning should be prepared to sing about 30 seconds of the song of their choice. An accompanist will be provided.
Rehearsals will begin at the church on June 3, and performances will be staged Aug. 9, 10, 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m., and Aug. 11 and 18 at 3 p.m.
Don't miss it!
