First Stage to Present "Frozen, Jr."

It's shaping up to be a Frozen season!

No, no the weather (although it's been chilly lately) - the rights to the Junior version of the Broadway hit have just been released, and several local groups have announced plans to stage it.

The latest to join in is Huntington's long-running theatre company - here's their announcement:

The First Stage Theatre Company will present the musical Disney’s Frozen, Jr. as the first of four stage shows to be presented in its upcoming 30th season (which runs from Fall 2019 to Spring 2020).

“We saw a sneak preview of the new production at the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta in January, and we were happy to sign on as one of the first companies in the Tri-State to tackle this new show,” according to Amy Browning, president of First Stage. “Now that the contracts are signed and approved, we’re happy to announce ‘Disney’s Frozen Jr.’ as the first of four shows we’ll be presenting in our historic 30th season.”

Disney’s Frozen, Jr. will be presented in October 2019, at Huntington High School. Auditions will be held June 29, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

First Stage was founded in 1990 (originally known as Musical Arts Guild - Children’s Theatre) and is the longest-running active community theatre in Huntington. Its final production of its 29th season, Disney’s Newsies, will be presented on March 8, 9 and 10 at Huntington High School’s auditorium at 1 Highlander Way.

Carol Channing Passes

Sad to report the passing of Broadway legend Carol Channing, 97, who passed away at her California home this morning of natural causes.

She was best known for her star turn on Broadway in the title role in Hello, Dolly - a part she played for 5,000 consecutive performances!

According to legend, her understudy in that show was the talented Jo Anne Worley (who would go on to star on the TV show Laugh In). Carol went to her and said something like, "I know you're wonderful and talented, but I should warn you - you're never going on." And she didn't, because Carol never missed a show - an amazing feat!

You can read more about Channing at this link, and in dozens of loving obituaries posted today.
