Auditions for "Midsummer Night's Dream"

Auditions are coming up soon for William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream!

Alchemy Theatre Troupe will hold auditions on April 27 at 7 p.m. and April 28 at 10 a.m. at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church at 1135 5th Avenue in Huntington.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be the central showcase in West Virginia’s Inaugural Shakespeare Festival (WV SHAKES). This is your opportunity to be in at the beginning of what is planned as an annual event.

Performance date and venue: June 30 at 3 p.m. at the Barboursville Park Amphitheatre.

At auditions scenes will be distributed and actors assigned; you will be given some time to work through the scene together before presenting it to the director. Preferences for characters will be noted, but please be open to other roles as well in the audition process. Prepared monologues are not required, but if requested will be heard; sonnets work well to show fluency with Shakespeare's language.

Additional information: Auditioners will be given the opportunity to demonstrate ability to juggle, tumble, do magic tricks, or otherwise engage audience members (before and/or within the show), and should bring necessary props to the audition; actors or tech who play a wind or stringed instrument should be prepared to demonstrate a fanfare (brass) or mood-setting tune (woodwinds, strings).
