ON STAGE THIS WEEK

- “My Fair Lady” - Charleston Light Opera Guild presents this beloved musical at the Charleston Civic Center Little Theatre on April 28, May 4, 5, 11, and 12 at 7:30 p.m. with matinees on April 29 and May 6 at 2 p.m. All tickets $25 available now at charlestonlightoperaguild.org or at Civic Center Little Theatre Box Office starting April 25 open Wed-Sat 11 a.m.  to 1 p.m. and 1 hour before performances. Call 304-343-2287 for more information.

- “HOODS” - The Contemporary Youth Arts Company (CYAC) presents the original drama by Dan Kehde about love, hope and racism in the hills of West Virginia in 1957. It’ll be presented April 26, 27 and 28 at 7 p.m. at the Charleston Town Center on the second floor of the mall, next to Buckle and across from Aeropostale. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens. Strong and intense language makes this show inappropriate for children under 12.

- “Hairspray” - Huntington High School Theatre presents the hit musical on April 26, 27, 28 at 7:30 p.m. and April 29 at 3 p.m. at the school auditorium at 1 Highlander Way. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

- “To Kill a Mockingbird”  - Actor’s Guild of Parkersburg presents the play based on the novel by Harper Lee on April 27 and 28 at 8 p.m. and April 29 at 2:30 p.m. at 724 Market Street.

- “Disney’s Camp Rock the Musical” - Jenny Wiley Theatre presents the musical on April 26, 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Jenny Wiley Mainstage in Pikeville, Ky. Tickets are $9 to $14.

UPCOMING LIVE THEATRE

- “Shrek the Musical, Jr.” - The Paramount Players present a one-hour version of the musical based on the animated film on May 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, Ky. Tickets are $9 in advance and $11 at the door.

- “Shrek the Musical” - First Stage Theatre presents the musical based on the animated film on May 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m., May 5 and 6 at 2:30 p.m. at Huntington High School’s auditorium at 1 Highlander Way. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for  senior citizens and kids under 12. 

- “Alchemy Cabaret” - Alchemy Theatre Troupe's very first performances is a cabaret to introduce their troupe to the community. Enjoy an evening of American songbook and musical theatre standards. This kick-off event has limited seating - only 75 per night! It'll be presented May 18 and 19 at 8 p.,m. at Huntington’s Union Pub and Grill! Tickets are $25 each. There will be a cash bar.

AUDITIONS FOR: “William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream “ 

   Alchemy Theatre Troupe will hold auditions on April 27 at 7 p.m. and April 28 at 10 a.m. at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church at 1135 5th Avenue in Huntington.  “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be the central showcase in West Virginia’s Inaugural Shakespeare Festival (WV SHAKES). This is your opportunity to be in at the beginning of what we hope will become an annual event. Performance date and venue: June 30 at 3 p.m. at the Barboursville Park Amphitheatre. At auditions scenes will be distributed and actors assigned; you will be given some time to work through the scene together before presenting it to the director. Preferences for characters will be noted, but please be open to other roles as well in the audition process. Prepared monologues are not required, but if requested will be heard; sonnets work well to show fluency with Shakespeare's language. Additional information: Auditioners will be given the opportunity to demonstrate ability to juggle, tumble, do magic tricks, or otherwise engage audience members (before and/or within the show), and should bring necessary props to the audition; actors or tech who play a wind or stringed instrument should be prepared to demonstrate a fanfare (brass) or mood-setting tune (woodwinds, strings). AUDITIONS FOR: “Norman Rockwell’s An American Love Story” 

    The Contemporary Youth Arts Company will hold auditions for the Scarpelli-Kehde musical Norman Rockwell’s “An American Love Story” beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 29 at the Contemporary Youth Arts Company Theater, 2nd level [beside Buckle], at the Charleston Town Center. Roles include young couples aged 8-12, 14-16, 18-20 plus several solo roles for actors/singers playing age 40 and above as well as a large chorus. A short prepared musical selection is recommended. Show dates are June 14-23. "Norman Rockwell’s An American Love Story" is the fictional account of two of the Norman Rockwell’s favorite models as they find each other, fall in love and survive the trials of wartime separation.

AUDITIONS FOR: “Guys and Dolls JR.” 

   Alban Arts and Conference Center will hold auditions on May 19 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and May 20 from 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. The musical will be directed by Adam Bryan. This a Junior production so they will only be casting actors ages 8 - 18. There are 13 main roles with a large ensemble. Those auditioning will be required to sing a short song selection of no more than 60 seconds. Also a short monologue is encouraged but if one is not prepared audition sides will be provided. There will also be a short choreography audition where a short dance number will be taught and performed. AUDITIONS FOR: Junior Theater Festival (JTF19) 

   First Stage Theatre Company will hold auditions for a cast to attend the Junior Theatre Festival in January 2019.  The Auditions will be held on Saturday, June 9 from 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
