ONSTAGE THIS WEEK:

Disney’s Frozen, Jr. - First Stage Theatre Company presents the musical based on the beloved animated film as part of the 30th season for Huntington’s long-running children’s theatre. Shows will be presented October 11, 12 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 13, 19 and 20 at 2:30 p.m. at the Huntington High School auditorium at 1 Highlander Way.

- Beautiful - The Carole King Musical - The Marshall Artists Series will present the touring Broadway musical at the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center on Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. To order tickets, call 304-696-6656 or order online at ticketmaster.com. 

- Silent Sky - Marshall University’s Department of Theatrre presents the play by Lauren Gunderson on Oct. 9, 10, 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Playhouse of the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center. When Henrietta Leavitt begins work at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s, she isn’t allowed to touch a telescope or express an original idea. In her free time she attempts to measure the light and distance of stars, and she must also take measure of her life on Earth, trying to balance her dedication to science with family obligations and the possibility of love. The true story explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them. For tickets, call 304-696-2787. Tickets are $20 at the door, $15 for Senior Citizens and Faculty, and $7 for children 12 and under. Marshall University students are admitted free with a valid ID.

- Space Preachers: The Musical - The musical based on the Troma sci-fi cult comedy film "Strangest Dreams: Invasion of the Space Preachers" will land onstage in October as a live staged reading, with music and lyrics by Mark Scarpelli and book by Daniel Boyd! It will be presented on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Elk City Playhouse at 218 West Washington Street in Charleston. All seats $15. Limited seating. All ages.

- Tales from the Campfire - BlackRoot Theatre Kids presents this original story features kids telling and acting out classic campfire stories. (Don’t worry, it's not TOO spooky!) Shows will be presented Friday, Oct. 11 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13 at 2:00 p.m.,  Friday, Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $5. Performances will be at BlackRoot Theatre at 2700 E Dupont Avenue in Belle. (At the former Fastenal building in the Quincy Center.) 

- Mamie - The Aracoma Story presents the play at the Coalfield Jamboree in downtown Logan on Oct. 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 13 and 20 at 3:00 p.m.

UPCOMING LIVE THEATRE

- The Diary of Anne Frank - GWHS Theatre of the Nevertheless will present the play on Oct. 25 and 26 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. at the George Washington High School Auditorium. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students. (Warning: sensitive subject matter.)

- Carrie the Musical - The Paramount Players will present the musical based on the Stephen King book on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, Ky. The musical is rated “R.”

- Sweeney Todd: School Edition - The Actor’s Guild of Parkersburg and the Guild Builders Teen Program are presenting the musical in collaboration with WVU-P. Performances will be held in the Little Theatre at WVU-P on Thursday, Oct. 31, Friday, Nov. 1, and Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for Adults and $6 for Students. General Admission Seating.

- 9 to 5 the Musical - Southern Coalition of the Arts will present the musical at the Southern WV Community and Technical College’s Logan Campus on Nov. 8, 9, 10, 15 and 16.

- Oklahoma - Charleston Light Opera Guild present the beloved musical on November 8-10, 15-16, and 22-24 at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center Little Theatre.

- Rock of Ages - The Alban Arts Center will present the musical that features the big music hits and the big hair of the ‘80s at the Alban Arts Center at 65 Olde Main Plaza in St. Albans on Nov. 15-17 and 21-24.

- Aida - West Virginia State University will present the musical by Elton John and Tim Rice at the Davis Fine Arts Theatre, WVSU. Performances are Nov. 19 - 22.

- ELF the Musical - The Aracoma Story will present the musical based on the holiday film the last weekend of November and the first two weekends of December at the Coalfield Jamboree.

AUDITIONS:

- Disney Frozen Jr. - The Children’s Theatre of Charleston will hold auditions on Oct. 12 and 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. Auditions are open to those ages 8 – 18. There will be callback auditions on Oct. 14 and 15. Auditions will take place at the CTOC Workshop located at 1120 Kanawha Blvd. E. in Charleston. Please reserve an audition slot or walk in to audition. The musical will be performed Dec. 12-15 at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center Little Theater. 

- Adventures in Santa Claus Land - Astral Theatre Collective will offer another round of auditions with parts for all ages, particularly children and younger actors! Auditions will be on Oct. 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. (drop in any time!) at First Christian Church at 2121 Kanawha Terrace across from the St. Albans High School. The play is an Astral Theatre Collective original, directed by Kelly Strom and written by John Johnson. This performance will take place at the Alban Arts Center over the first two weekends of December. A young girl and her siblings embark on the ultimate Christmas adventure, taking them to the North Pole where they will be confronted with the great question - "Do you believe?" Along the way they meet colorful characters, including Santa himself!
