Make Your Voice Heard!

OK, we have more than a dozen entries so far in our "Name your favorite show" question - but there are lots of you out there who have't expressed your opinion yet! (That's right, pal - I'm looking at you!)

We want to hear what theatrical show (musical or non) that you'd like to see a local theatre group tackle.

Here's how it works: you can vote by leaving a comment - just click on the link at the bottom of this entry. You don't have to leave your real name or your email address - just tell us what shows you'd like to see and why. If you'd rather avoid the comments process, you can send an email to The Minskers@aol.com.

If you don't vote you can't complain when a show you don't like wins!

O'Neill's "Long Day's Journey Into Night". It would be nice to see someone tackle something with some real substance. A local theater group attempted to do the show a few years ago, but MU nipped it in the bud when the theater dept. forbid some of the cast members from participating. The decree wasn't made until the play was well into rehearsals.
Too bad -- the theater company had previously produced 'Waiting For Godot' and works by Pinter and Ionesco.

Anonymous - I agree, it would be great to see more of that kind of serious theatre - unfortunately, most community theatre groups (especially in this area) have limited funds, and those kinds of shows are not traditionally big money-makers. Of course, shows can and should be staged for reasons other than making a buck. Marshall's Dept. of Theatre is filling the gap these days, as it does a Shakespeare play almost every season, and they have Chekov's "The Seagull" coming up. I hadn't heard about the incident you mention, but unfortunately, those kinds of problems are all too common - I've had more than one show almost shut down by similar situations, where students had conflicts with school activities. But I agree, it would be great to see more shows like the ones you mentioned.
