Here's the list of shows I know about - if there are others I've missed, let me know and I'll add them to the list (as always, you can send a comment by clicking on the link at the bottom of this post, or you can send an email to TheMinskers@aol.com).

We made the trip to Shawnee State to see Portsmouth West's production of Anything Goes this past Friday.

Anything Goes is one of Cole Porter's classic musical comedies with the fantastic mixups, mayhem, and music he is known for. The version performed by PWHS is a tad different than the one HOT is doing this summer. It has a handful of different songs, and the plot is slightly different as well. Both versions are classics in their own right.

The first thing we noticed on entering the Vern Rife Center at Shawnee State was the gorgeous set. Rounded edges and bright colors made the cruise ship a brilliant unit set.

The highlight of the whole evening though was the vocal performances. This cast was full of very talented singers. Highlights were You're the Top, De-Lovely, Let's Misbehave, and Friendship.

Probably the funnest and most energetic moments of the whole show belonged to First Stage Alumna Ravan Idzakovich who played Bonnie, the typical New York gangster's girl. Her character had the audience laughing every time she made an entrance. Her song, the Heaven Hop (which unfortunately didn't make it in to the revival version), was hilarious and had us toe tapping along with her and the female chorus as they tapped.

Overall, it was a very well done show with very good tech.

I'm glad we had a spare evening to head to Portsmouth to preview what our summer is going to be like.

PWHS has a strong program running and I'd have to say the Verne Rife is as nice of a venue as I've been in.
